I had a couple of vmware vms running, winXP, win7 and Red Had Enterprise Linux 4. These are all running in vmware-player and/or vmware workstation 6.5. Then I installed some updates to ubuntu 9.04. Afterwards none of the VMs will fully start.

I say fully start, because if I start windows xp or windows 7 in safe mode without networking support they boot up just fine. However, if they try to access the bridged/nat/host network interface the vm fails with an irrecoverable error.

I noticed on my host machine that I do not have a vmnet0 device. This problem appears any number of times on the web and people suggest running vmware-config.pl, after a kernel update. However, this file was remove as of 6.0.5 I belive, and now I am stuck.

I have uninstalled VMware, tried workstation and player, and now I'm stuck. Hail to you who figures it out.
