I've created a brand new Windows 2008 R2 EC2 instance with the following security group:

 21 0.0.0.0/0 Delete
 80 (HTTP) 0.0.0.0/0 Delete
1024 - 1048 0.0.0.0/0 Delete
1433 (MS SQL) 0.0.0.0/0 Delete
3389 (RDP) 0.0.0.0/0 Delete

Nonetheless, I am unable to connect to it with remote desktop.

I get a timeout. I tried with telnet and got the same results.

I saw some Amazon documentation, but it says something about a Firefox extension (Elasticfox) that is no longer compatible with the new version of Firefox.

Any ideas what am I doing wrong?

use the following for elasticfox eaglegenomics.com/2011/05/… –  Mike Aug 13 '12 at 12:33

Have you setup an elastic IP and associated it to your instance? –  user135659 Sep 12 '12 at 11:57

Are you attempting to connect to the public DNS name Amazon has given, or the private IP listed in the instances properties? You need to use the public address. –  gdhagger Sep 12 '12 at 12:08
