Every time I try and update a rule I get this error.

# sudo ufw allow from 111.111.111.111
sudo: unable to resolve host myserver
ERROR: '/lib/ufw/user.rules' is not writable

How do I resolve?

Why are you running sudo when you are apparently already running as the root user (denoted by the # prompt)? –  mdpc Aug 14 '12 at 19:57

either way it does not work. sudo is just out of habbit –  Tampa Aug 14 '12 at 22:55

You might want to include the ls -l of /lib/ufw/user.rules,/lib, /lib/ufs files, and expand the file listing to include ACLs. What you also might be running into is a locked file. –  mdpc Aug 15 '12 at 15:21
