I am running a squid 2.7 on windows, and whenever I use it as proxy, it works really slowly, I should note I use a dynamic dns from NO-IP.

I've tried diagnosing the problem as they've said on the squid website, but came up with nothing.

Edit: Using Windows 7.

When I surf without the proxy, it works fast - it takes ~1500ms to load google.

When I surf in the machine running the proxy, it works fast - it takes ~1500ms to load google.

When I surf using the proxy, to load google, takes an order of magnitude longer, somewhere in the lines of 10 seconds.

be more accurate, what windows version are you using, what the squid log look like, what do you mean by 'slowly', what kind of network are you in? etc... You'll get more help this way ;) – Anarko_Bizounours Aug 22 '12 at 9:07

What does your network setup look like? Wired or wireless? How fast do things work without the proxy? How fast are they with the proxy? – David Schwartz Aug 22 '12 at 9:08
@ItaiSagi Might want to correct/update your answer. You say it takes the same amount of time with or without the proxy. And more information would be useful - is the proxy heavily utilized? Is it displaying any errors or giving an indication of why it's slow? Heavily utilizing machine resources, etc.? – HopelessN00b Aug 23 '12 at 17:28
Hello @HopelessN00b as I stated, when surfing through the proxy it's much slower, the computer isn't heavily used and the proxy is used only by 1 remote computer, this is it's purpose. the squid logs state nothing that would indicate slow traffic. – Itai Sagi Aug 26 '12 at 8:24

To me this sounds like a DNS issue, that your proxy server is taking a long time to resolve DNS queries. Try using the proxy and browsing to an IP instead of a Domain Name, e.g.:212.58.241.131 (www.bbc.co.uk).

If this is alot faster, get a connection to the server hosting the proxy and try using nslookup to see exactly what is going on and making sure your DNS is setup correctly (I tend to use 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.8.4).

Getting roughly the same speed. I believe squid is the problem, as when I access the http server on either the dynamic ip or the dns, I get the content delivered quickly. but when I proxy - it's slow. – Itai Sagi Aug 22 '12 at 16:53
