Server Fault is a question and answer site for professional system and network administrators. It's 100% free, no registration required.

We have a situation in which we have master salve databases, we write in master and read from slave. in application we defined two connections one for write and other for read.

I came to know know another solution for it, and that is to use mysql proxy, so in application level we will create single connection and use mysql-proxy to handle select/insert operations. i want to know if it is a better way to handle this scenario?

mysqlproxy doesn't really have all that great performance. it's a meter of taste, but i would keep the server-selection logic in the application.
