Server Fault is a question and answer site for professional system and network administrators. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I have installed Windows Server 2012 and is going to install OpenSuSE also. I plan to set it up at setup to not alter the bootloader. My question is then, how do i add the OpenSuSE to the windows bootloader when im done installing.

First, don't. Dual-booting server OSes is not something you see in a professional SA capacity. You use virtualization, or buy two servers. So that's what you'd do. But since your question indicates that this isn't in a professional sysadmin capacity, it's off topic, per the FAQ. :/ – HopelessN00b Aug 27 '12 at 17:03
Its for a test server, dual booting to experiment with different OS system. Can i move the question to superusers instead or should i delete and create it again there? – s093294 Aug 27 '12 at 17:08
Have you checked to see if Vmware ESXi is supported on your hardware? Virtualization really is the one-true-way to test various systems. – Zoredache Aug 27 '12 at 19:47
The gpu resources cant be virtualized. OpenCL applications. – s093294 Aug 28 '12 at 19:24

Considering you are doing this on test server, I would recommend that you do following :

  • Install OpenSuSE with your configuration
  • While installing bootloader configure grub location as "Boot from partition" and unselect boot from MBR
  • After successful installation boot into Windows and install EasyBCD and create entry for OpenSuSE

Hope this will work for you.

I will try this, and you know that easybCD works with windows server 2012 ? – s093294 Aug 27 '12 at 17:52
@s093294, I am afraid, I have tried it on Windows 8 but not on Windows Server 2012. I think you should give a shot for that. – Abhijeet Kasurde Aug 27 '12 at 17:58
