Where does IIS keep user account information ( login and password )? Does IIS keep the information in the Windows SAM file? Is there a way to prevent hackers from getting it?

I have heard IIS is vulnerable against hackers to gain access to account information and is a popular way for hackers to hack servers. Is this true?

Which user account you means?

User under which context is IIS currently running is configured using service manager, not IIS itself.

Several information are stored in IIS meta base.

Some DB related user info with connection strings are stored in machine.config and per application web.config files.

Please refine your question.

Some info about vulnerabilities in previous versions of IIS you can find on wikipedia
