I have some old hardware (2 XeonDual Cores with 3 Ghz, not sure about the exact model) where neither VMware ESXi nor Xen Server can be installed. A full Linux and something like VMware Server would work, however VMware Server is end of life. So, are there any real alternatives, therefore some non bare-metal virtualization software, that offers a good remote administration? Maybe even a complete linux distribution just for this use case?

Check out KVM might be a good alternative for you and use something like Virt-Manager to manage your virtual machines. |
