Server Fault is a question and answer site for professional system and network administrators. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I'm recieving too many requests to my site that the CPU usage is always exceeding the limit and the site gets suspended. I tried blocking the IP range that most requests are coming from (a Chinese range) but that didn't work, looks like other servers are doing that now, it doesn't seem reasonable to go blocking IP addresses for good.

I'm on shared hosting, the server OS is Debian. The scripting language is PHP, and the database engine is MySQL.

Is there any measurements I can take to stop that?

P.S: Please tell me if this question belongs to webmasters so I move it there, also please tell me if any extra information are required, this is my first time on this site.

Pretty much you should either change hosting plans or live with it. Cheap hosting plans just don't provide you a way to withstand attacks. –  David Schwartz Sep 23 '12 at 4:50

Also, you need to analyse your logs to see what exactly going on –  Serge Sep 23 '12 at 5:11
