I cannot remove an accepted domain from Exchange 2010:

Exchange can't remove accepted domain

This domain is not listed in the default email address policy.

I attempted to follow http://www.msdigest.net/2008/09/cannot-remove-the-domain-domain-name-because-it-is-referenced-by-the-proxy-address-template-smtpdomain-name/, however the attribute named disabledGatewayProxy is not set.

Any ideas out there?

why would you look in the proxy address template? The error is showing that it is referenced in the email address policies. Do you have more than one address policies defined (Org Config/Hub Transport/Email Address Policies)? –  Rex Oct 12 '12 at 5:59
I assumed that the 'proxy address template' is the default email address policy under Org Config/Hub Transport/Email Address Policies. This Exchange server has only one email address policy (Default Policy) which does not contain the offending domain. –  Ash Oct 12 '12 at 6:03
