Server Fault is a question and answer site for professional system and network administrators. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I have an account level filter for any address that contains, for example, -bounces@domain.tld so that mail sent to auniqueid-bounces@domain.tld can be piped to a newsletter management script. Testing the address using the Filter Trace on cPanel shows that it sets up a significant delivery, as expected.

The problem is that, when other scripts send mail to using the bounce address as the sender, the mail is never delivered. I get this error report from the Email Trace on cPanel:

Event: rejected rejected
User: -remote-
Domain:
Sender: auniqueid-bounces@domain
Sent Time: Oct 12, 2012 5:16:17 PM
Sender Host: our-isps-mail-server.tld
Sender IP: x.x.x.x
Authentication: unauthorized
Spam Score:
Recipient: realaddress@domain.tld
Delivery User: #######
Delivery Domain: domain.tld
Delivered To:
Router: reject
Transport: **rejected**
Out Time: Oct 12, 2012 5:16:17 PM
ID: ###########
Delivery Host: our-isps-mail-server.tld
Delivery IP: x.x.x.x
Size: 0 bytes
Result: Sender verify failed

I don't know what to do to get the bounce addresses (which must unique per message to prevent abuse) to be recognised as valid.
