I am having an intermittent problem with a Spotfire Server accessing information models which connect to Microsoft Access databases via ODBC.

The server is a Windows Server 2008 R2 64bit, we have installed the 64bit ODBC Microsoft ACE ODBC drivers available from (http://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/download/details.aspx?id=13255).

The issue we are seeing is an error:

The data source reported a failure.

InformationModelException at Spotfire.Dxp.Data: Error retrieving metadata: [Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Invalid string or buffer length (HRESULT: 80131500)

I've checked that the Spotfire Server is running in 64bit mode (its a java app running in Tomcat6), hence the 64bit drivers.

Has anyone else had and resolved a similar issue?

Are you running the x64 Tomcat version as well as the x64 JDK? –  Brent Pabst Oct 15 '12 at 15:51
Hi Brent, yes java -version yeilds: java version "1.6.0_30" Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_30-b12) Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 20.5-b03, mixed mode) and tomcat6 process appears as a 64bit image/process in process explorer. –  Philip Oct 16 '12 at 8:27
I missed one vital piece of information the Access databases are still Access 2003 databases. –  Philip Oct 16 '12 at 8:29
How have you solved the problem then? –  user142334 Oct 23 '12 at 13:03
