Server Fault is a question and answer site for professional system and network administrators. It's 100% free, no registration required.

We've received a Seagate LOD file from Seagate which contains a firmware update for some Barracuda SATA drives. Actually this update is not publicly available yet.

We've got 10 servers with 12 drives each that need to get this update. None of the servers have operating systems.

I need some intelligent suggestions as to the best and most expeditious way to perform this task :)

Thank you -

Talk to seagate. They gave you the pre-release firmware. They should be able to tell you how to apply it to the drives. –  EEAA Oct 18 '12 at 20:18
For reasons I won't elaborate, cannot talk to Seagate to get procedure. Need homegrown suggestions. –  80skeys Oct 18 '12 at 20:48
Hrm, sounds pretty shady. –  EEAA Oct 18 '12 at 20:55
I hope each disk is part of a raid. So you could remove each disk, one after another, from the raid, remove power and connect it to a pc with e-sata port and do the updatethere. –  ott-- Oct 18 '12 at 21:11
ErikA. No. It's not shady. We are working with a reseller who is working with Adaptec and Seagate. Cannot contact them directly. All I have is LOD file and need to figure out how to burn it to 120 drives. Try being helpful. –  80skeys Oct 18 '12 at 21:13
