When trying to activate Windows 8 on our Server 2003 KMS I get the message:

"Error: 0xC004F050 The Software Licensing Service reported that the product key is invalid"

After doing some basic searching I found this Microsoft KB http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2691586/EN-US that talks of extending support for Windows 8/ Server 2012 on a Windows 7 or Server 2008R2 KMS, but I have not found anything about 2003 saying that it is no longer supported moving forward for activating new versions of Windows. Anyone know a workaround, hotfix, or registry change that can be made to allow further support?

Is there any particular reason that your KMS system needs to stay on 2003? –  Shane Madden Oct 20 '12 at 19:20
The server that our KMS is running on provides licensing for a number of products. The licensing software that is running on it is only supported on Server 2003. It would be possible to bring up a server just for KMS that is 2008R2, but the preference would be to extend functionality of the current server if possible. –  ZnewmaN Oct 22 '12 at 13:21
