Server Fault is a question and answer site for professional system and network administrators. It's 100% free, no registration required.

Host: Windows 7. Guest: Ubuntu 12.04. VMware Player v5.0.0.

VMware Unity supports the old Gnome 2 desktop. It works great. But when I wake up my laptop from sleep, VMware complains:

"The virtual machine cannot enter Unity mode because: - Unity is not supported on this guest operating system."

At this point VMware is a big black screen, no graphics at all. I have to suspend the VM, then run it again to get the screen back. Then I have to logoff/logon in Ubuntu to get Unity working again. Has anyone else encountered this problem? Any ideas on how to resolve this?

Thanks.
