I'm fairly new to the OpenStack world and have been working on getting our first cluster up and running. I've primarily been using this document http://wiki.debian.org/OpenStackPuppetHowto among others and it always appears to yield the same results: kernel panics.

Things run perfectly fine when all services are consolidated on a single node but as soon as I add a second compute node after a seemingly random amount of time and not in response to any particular activity the compute node itself will kernel panic and need to be rebooted. There is nothing suspicious looking in syslog, or any of the nova-*.log files so I'm a bit stuck on where to go from here. These issues have happened on Ubuntu 12.04 and Debian 6.0.5.

nova version

vmhost-4:~# nova-manage version
2012.1.3-dev (2012.1.3-LOCALBRANCH:LOCALREVISION)

debian version

vmhost-4:~# cat /etc/debian_version

kernel version

vmhost-4:~# uname -r

vmhost-4:~# cat /etc/nova/nova.conf
--root_helper=sudo nova-rootwrap

Nova-manage network list

vmhost-0:~# nova-manage network list
id IPv4 IPv6 start address DNS1 DNS2 VlanID project uuid
1 None None None 2000 e1c110b8287643799ac13e14ef3abeaa e72b225e-21ff-4e32-8f16-3f0095f63182

I'm not entirely sure what information to add about the kernel panic, as it doesn't log anywhere ,but I could definitely snap a picture of it or transcribe what I can see if there are no obvious issues in the information I've provided above. If any additional information would be useful please feel free to let me know.

Thanks! Tim
