By default tmux opens new windows in numeric order, which is confusing and not very handy. Is there any way to make new window open next to the current one? For example, if I have windows 1,5,8,10 and my current window is 5, the new window 0 should appear after 5.

Have you looked at any of the tmux tutorials? There are some pretty good video tutorials on this that you can find in your favorite web search tool. –  vgoff Nov 16 '12 at 9:00

It is not very clear what you are asking. I think I understand that you mean "When you have windows 1,2,3,4 and you are on window 2, and you create a new window, is there a way to create the new window between windows 2 and 3?". –  chutz Nov 16 '12 at 9:44

Exactly. Even if I have windows 1,5,8,10 and my current window is 5, the new window 0 should appear after 5. –  user145782 Nov 16 '12 at 10:38

It may help to add this clarification to the question. –  chutz Nov 16 '12 at 15:21
