Trying to Reissue a Certificate to an expired certificate authority.

I've logged into my Domain Controller, gone to the Certificate Authority and then right-clicked and went to "Renew CA Certificate..." and followed the prompts.

However, I'm getting the error:

"Microsoft Certificate Services" Access is denied. 0x80070005 (WIN32:5)

Any thoughts?

What kind of certificate authority - root or subordinate? Standalone or Enterprise? What user are you logged in as - is it a domain admin (or enterprise admin, if this a child domain in the forest)? Can you provide specific details about what options you selected in the renewal dialog? – Shane Madden Nov 17 '12 at 8:42
Root authority. Standalone. Logged in as domain admin. – PSU_Kardi Nov 19 '12 at 22:19
Hmm. Anything interesting in the system's security log when the failure occurs? Also, is UAC enabled on the system? – Shane Madden Nov 20 '12 at 2:48
I'm basically taking over a previous system for a short term just to get it boxed up and out the door. I don't see anything interesting in the security logs. Unfortunately I'm more of a .NET/Java guy so this is all voodoo to me. – PSU_Kardi Nov 20 '12 at 13:07
Can you check on the UAC thing? It might be as simple as your privileges not being properly elevated. – Shane Madden Nov 20 '12 at 16:25
