I have a server with CentOS and Samba4 working as a DC. I need migrate all configuration to a new server

  • original server CentOS 5.8 with Samba Version 4.0.0alpha14
  • new server Ubuntu 12.04 with Samba Version 4.1.0pre1

for now i've provisioned the new server with

# samba-tool domain join $DOMAIN DC --realm=$DOMAIN -UAdministrator

after a while the new server has all entries (I hope that!) later from other machine I've tested the following

$ ldapsearch -H $HOST -b $DOM -w $PW '(&(objectClass=user)(sAMAccountName=$existingAccount))'

and return me the info about that account.

Now i wanna shutdown the new server without the old, i know need change the DNS entries in my BIND server and copy the logon scripts from old to new server. but i have some questions

  1. Migrate Samba AD is correctly with the previos steps
  2. The new server will attempt to synchronize with the old? if thie is true how to avoid

If you have any recommendations to consider please do not hesitate to say it, I've never worked with samba as AD

this is alpha quality software, official samba4 wiki says that migration between versions may very well not work. –  Hubert Kario Nov 26 '12 at 18:30
