Server Fault is a question and answer site for professional system and network administrators. It's 100% free, no registration required.

My server is Windows 2008 R2 Standard Server.

I have a SAS drive where all my website files are with the following properties:

  • NTFS File System
  • Allow files on this drive to have contents indexed in addition to file properties IS CHECKED
  • Simple Layout
  • Basic Type
  • Healthy (Page File, Primary Partition) Status

I have 3 folders on this drive:

  • Folder 1: 4GB
  • Folder 2: 2GB
  • Folder 3: 20GB

(These are the sizes of them when I click properties)

But the drive says it only has 10GB left out of 65GB. Why? I'm trying to make more room on this drive.

alternate data streams? hidden files/folders? –  Hubert Kario Nov 28 '12 at 6:55
Pagefile.sys, shadow copies can occupy this space. Configure Folder Options to show hidden and system files. –  Volodymyr Nov 28 '12 at 8:32
What do I have to do to increase free space? –  Zee Tee Nov 29 '12 at 22:21
Move your page file to another drive is one way. Typically it is a similar size to the RAM setup for the Windows machine. Keep in mind that clicking "properties" won't show you all the files on the drive. Anything your user account doesn't have access to won't be counted. –  MikeAWood Dec 6 '12 at 1:24
