We have downloaded and installed the Windows 2008 Standard R2 edition months ago. Now the server is in production.

We signed up the Microsoft Partnership Action Pack subscription last week and get a license for Windows 2008 Enterprise edtion.

I am trying to activate the standard edition with Enterprise key as advsied here: Upgrade Domain Controller SKU from Server 2008 R2 Standard to Enterprise , but failed.

Is it because windows 2008 we have is different? (downloaded from MS site with eval license).

Updates:

This is the error message: enter image description here

Thanks. tim

Failed how? What happened. What did you do and what messages did you get –  Mark Henderson Dec 1 '12 at 12:26

Is your Enterprise license a volume license / multiple activation key? If so, you need the volume license build of Server 2008 R2. –  Dan Dec 1 '12 at 13:27

Just add a screenshot. Hi Dan, I am not sure if my Enterprise license is VLK or MAK. It comes with Microsoft Action Pack Subscription. Maybe it is MAK? –  starchx Dec 1 '12 at 14:35

Did you use the DISM command? Your screenshot doesn't reflect that. –  TheCleaner Dec 1 '12 at 14:43

Are you using an R2 key? Are you sure that you're using an R2 key? Are you absolutely positive that you're using an R2 key? –  joeqwerty Dec 1 '12 at 15:20
