Server Fault is a question and answer site for professional system and network administrators. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I have a VMware ESXi 5.1 whitebox server as a home lab, and recently I have a task to install a cluster of Hyper-V 2008R2 or 2012 for a production environment, so I have to start getting familiar with Hyper-V.

I read couple articles about this issue, but I got confused a little bit.. especialy regarding enable VHV.

I have done some configs, which are creating a second vSwitch with Promiscuous Mode enabled, and check that the "nestedHVSupported" property is states true.

So my question is: what is the prerequisites and configs I have to done before installing the Hyper-V on a VM within my ESXi 5.1?

I appreciate your help..

If you want to do it right, install a Hyper-V home lab on physical equipment. If you're being paid in a professional capacity to develop a Hyper-V solution in production, having dedicated hardware outside of ESXi would seem worthwhile.

excuse me, but i wanted to test it first on my own lab, then implement them on the production environment for the customer, just wanted to double check that i will not miss any thing that might interrupt their services... P.S. no one paid me yet, I waiting in order to know if I will be ready to do it, or I will reject the task,,,, thanks for not helping me – Bahaddin Hussein Dec 9 '12 at 19:55
