I cannot find high load cause. CPU usage is not high. Maybe disk is causing high i/o, but disk utilization is not that high too. The peaks around 4:30am is backup time and not that important.

Memory usage Load average CPU usage Disk utilization

I assume, running htop at the time of the peaks doesn't reveal any valuable information? Make sure to unhide kernel threads. –  Jonas Wielicki Dec 28 '12 at 11:05
Wild guess: you have 8 cpus or cores? Load will then be around 8, and thus be perfectly normal. –  Olivier Dulac Dec 28 '12 at 11:19
more precisely: do you have several cpus or cores? Load can then be <= nb-of-cpus-or-cores and be perfectly normal (worry only when it goes above that number). You may be having many processes, or some in a waiting state due to I/O intensive operations going on. –  Olivier Dulac Dec 28 '12 at 11:28
yes cpu is e3-1230 witch has 8 threads. load is sometimes higher than 8. you can see disk utilization too. I have mysql on server an a large buffer pool for innodb so most of io is disk writes. if my problem is I/O what should I do? –  Mehdi Azizi Dec 28 '12 at 13:48
What specific operating system are you using? –  ewwhite Dec 28 '12 at 15:14
