I'm using NGINX since a while, but it's still hard for me to figure out the right way to configure it - especially in this case since I can find dozens of different solutions, and cant see wich one is the correct (and have a bug)
My problem is simple: I want to get every picture / movie, etc, from a separate server (that I own), by configuring a proxy that handels a certain subdomain.
http://file.example.com/yourpicture.jpg doesnt get the picture from example.com, but instead from another server (whitout domain, only IP), delivering the picture. The user still only see's file.example.com
Anyway, as I was trying out some solutions I found on the web (that didnt work), I also noticed that all my subdomains dont work. www.example.com works, but everything else (something.example.com) goes to a 404. How do I need to configure that?
I've setup everything (including DNS entries) myself for the first time, so maybe the problem is somewhere in the DNS entries?
Thanks a lot!
Edit: Stupid question, but do I even need NGINX, if I have the domain controll? Or is it exactly the same, as if I would add 'file.xyz.com' to redirect to another server? I guess it would, right?
