We have made a same setup for 10 boxes via pupet. All boxes are using centos 5.6 except one running Centos 5.8. All boxes have the same gmond.conf. A snippet of conf

    udp_send_channel {
    #bind_hostname = yes # Highly recommended, soon to be default.
    host = ***** #master_gmond_ip
    port = 8649
    }

    # if gmond_head_node fact is available and head_node is true enable the udp_recv channel and tcp_accept channel
    # if gmond_head_node is false then no need for udp_recv channel and tcp_accept channel
    # gmond_head_node fact error - not true or false - damn if it reaches here and leave it to defaults
    udp_recv_channel {
    #  mcast_join = ****
    port = 8649
    #  bind = ****
    }

    tcp_accept_channel {
    port = 8649
    timeout = -1
    }

But centos 5.8 box alone not sending metrics properly. When I tried netstat -anp on the boxes. The normal ones showed

    tcp        0      0 0.0.0.0:8649                0.0.0.0:*                   LISTEN      18210/gmond
    udp        0      0 172.16.x.x:52992         172.16.x.x:8649          ESTABLISHED 18210/gmond
    udp        0      0 0.0.0.0:8649                0.0.0.0:*                               18210/gmond
    unix  2      [ ]         DGRAM                    3373201601 18210/gmond

On centos 5.8 box the Dgram unix socket is missing. Does it have anything to do with the abnormal behaviour? Has anyone faced it

**** are proper private ips –  kalyan Jan 4 '13 at 13:32

try to read metrics from this host via command nc localhost 8649 and you should see the XML output. –  shawnzhu Oct 3 '13 at 14:30
