I'm having two older Intel se7520jr2 (Jarrell) servers on a remote location. I would like to access the BMC for those servers, but at the moment I don't have physical access to them. Is it possible to access the BMC/IPMI from the shell?
What I tried:
On my HP servers I usually do:
modprobe ipmi_devintf modprobe ipmi_si modprobe ipmi_msghandler
and after that '
ipmitool chassis status' just works.
But when I try to
mod_probe ipmi_si module, on the intel server, it gives:
FATAL: Error inserting ipmi_si (/lib/modules/3.2.0-34-generic/kernel/drivers/char/ipmi/ipmi_si.ko): No such device
And with the intel servers it says:
# ipmitool chassis status Could not open device at /dev/ipmi0 or /dev/ipmi/0 or /dev/ipmidev/0: No such file or directory Error sending Chassis Status command
I'm having Ubuntu 12.04 installed on the servers.
