gmail has an unfortunate "feature" that it will allow use of SSL 2 if the client handshaking fails with SSL 3. This isn't acceptable for our use. Thus we want to require TLS for both IMAP and SMTP.
gmail doesn't provide a way of enforcing this on the their servers in their administrative interface so we are trying to enforce it through our email client.
I've successfully connect to the gmail SMTP server using TLS. The trick seemed to be selecting port 587.
I'm unable to connect to the gmail IMAP server using TLS and port 993. I've tried a number of other ports even though google does not document and alternative. None worked.
Has anyone successful connect to gmail IMAP with TLS (not SSL) encryption?
