We have a Windows 2008 R2 server at a remote office, that is connected to our main office over a VPN link. The server runs Office 2010 64-bit.
We have an issue that we have been able to resolve, and we are uncertain as to exactly what causes it to occur. The only way around the issue is to reboot the server
I believe that if the VPN drops for a short but long enough period of time, then the Outlook clients get an issue where they can see incoming e-mail, but every time they attempt to send or move mail into folders etc., they get a small balloon popup stating that "Network connectivity errors are preventing connecting to exchange".
We have checked that the server can ping our mail server, both by IP and name, so we know DNS is still working correctly. The fact that they can see incoming mail makes me think it has something to do with authentication perhaps?
The server has two DNS servers set, both of them IPs in our main office. It connects to a local network via a netgear switch, which then goes into a USG 200, which creates the VPN to our main office.
Can anyone offer any advice on troubleshooting steps or possible causes?
