A problem where a network map drive cannot be seen with Windows explorer but can be located and accessed from the DOS prompt. I was also able to access the map drive (z:) when I ran explorer from the DOS prompt like --> explorer z:

If I just ran explorer.exe it does not see the mapped network drive.

Desktop PC: Window 7 (64) SP1 Server: Windows server 2008

The user installed Spybot but later removed it because it was causing him other issues. Not sure if something left over from this caused the issue

In explorer: Tools > Folder Options > View tab > UNcheck "Hide empty drives in the computer folder". It's possible that the drives are just disconnected and explorer isn't showing them because it thinks they are empty as a result –  August Jan 16 '13 at 18:51

Is the user a member of the Administrators group? –  Greg Askew Jan 16 '13 at 18:53

The user is a member of local Administrators group. I have tried unchecking Hide drives. The network drive is not empty and has a lot of directories and files –  Russ Hughes Jan 16 '13 at 20:17

I gave up and re-imaged the PC –  Russ Hughes Jan 16 '13 at 22:22
