At this moment i have 3 servers running cpanel.
- Dell PowerEdge
- HP DL360
Intel based (intel boards, cpu, chassis)
Each server has its own internal storage. What i want is to setup one NAS or SAN or DAS (i don't know witch i need, in question i call it NAS). I am new to network attached storage.
What i want is:
high availability (redundant power supplies, raid cards, etc)
- Way to connect one NAS to multiple servers. Here i need dedicated switch for storage network? If that, this is single point of failure, right? I think, that with 1 gigabit link will enough for each server. That means, i need NAS with 10G link? Or better is to put in NAS additional dedicated network card? Maybe connect it to data center switch ? Is it safe? Or connect direct each server to NAS (with dedicated NIC in SAN)?
- Way to create virtual disk for each server. For example, if usable space is 12 TB, then split it to four 3 TB partitions and i can give each server 3 TB.
- hardware raid (looks like raid6 is way to go)
- what about iSCSI?
What is better [from performance aspect] ( if i want 12 TB): place six 3TB drives or eight 2TB in raid6? I think that eight 2TB drives was better performance.
Did i need to keep one spare drive in NAS?
And question: What parameters i have to look when searching for NAS (redundant IO, power)? IO throughput?
And what parameters i don't need? (for example: to scale or another enterprise features)
