I am trying to complete a backup of an HP CM4540 printer settings to a
.ZIP file on a file server. The file server is a PC running Windows XP Pro. Has anyone gotten this to work? Any insights into why it might not work?
I created and shared a folder on the file server and created credentials having the necessary access. Then I kicked off the backup from the CM4540's embedded webserver. I supplied:
- UNC Folder Path (expressed as \\servername\sharename\foldername)
- Encryption Key (required, used to encrypt a
- Windows Domain (optional; here I tried the value returned on the file server by
echo %userdomain%, as well as the file server’s workgroup name, as well as leaving the field blank)
- Username (here I tried username as well as servername\username)
What I expect is to see a
.ZIP file appear in the folder.
What I get on the CM4540 multifunction control panel is an error box which reads
Backup/restore failed due to configuration error An unknown error has occurred.
What I get on the embedded webserver is an error box which reads
The operation was canceled.
I checked the CM4540 user manuals. There is virtually nothing there, just the names of the fields.
I looked at the event log. I found an error code,
32.1C.06, Backup/restore failed due to configuration error, but nothing to identify the cause. I looked the error code up in the CM4540 service manual but it does not list any
32.xx.xx error codes.
32.1C.xx codes are found in the service manual for the HP CP5520, but there
32.1C.06 is “Data model failed to clone job ticket” and has a recommended action of “Retry”.
I verified the printer has the latest firmware update already installed.
I contacted HP technical support. The rep did not know what was causing the problem. He speculated there might be an undocumented requirement that the PC be a member of a domain.
