Server Fault is a question and answer site for system and network administrators. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I'm not really a sysadmin, so bear that in mind.

We recently set our server and we have multiple cliente accounts. The problem is the upload_tmp_dir configuration is empty.

In an upload script that uses the tmp folder we were using as a fallback the /tmp folder, which was in the root of the account.

Now, the /tmp folder represents a folder in the "root of the server".

something like this:

  • account1
    • ...
    • public_html
    • tmp
  • account2
    • ...
    • public_html
    • tmp
  • tmp

If a change the fallback to the ../tmp it works fine (in the account tmp), but what we need is a way of defining that in the php.ini (and ../tmp doesn't work because of scripts running inside of other sub-folders)

Does anyone have a solution to my problem?

Thank you.

What is your problem with it defaulting to /tmp instead of a per-user relative directory? –  Zoredache Jan 25 '13 at 20:31
It broke the script elsewhere, because the "uploaded file" wasn't available. But in the account /tmp it works fine. –  Mario Cesar Jan 25 '13 at 20:35
So, we found the "problem" for the script breaking with the /tmp. the script was trying to access a sub-folder that was created by another account (same script), so the owner was the other account. This problem didn't occur in the old server because every account used their /tmp folder, which is something we are trying to achive. –  Mario Cesar Jan 25 '13 at 21:48
