Server Fault is a question and answer site for professional system and network administrators. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I've set up a Postfix installation based on http://flurdy.com/docs/postfix/ with modifications where I felt was sensible. Emails are being received fine until some users simply no longer receive emails from [big deals site].

  • I've checked the settings for the user's subscription and they're not unsubscribed.
  • I've signed up another user on my server for that deals site and they're coming through fine.
  • I've got many users with this problem - 70 different newsletters simply stop coming through.
  • I've sent email from my personal account to the users and it's coming through fine.
  • In the mail logs I don't see any more connections from the deals site to that domain.

To me, it simply looks like the email provider just gives up trying to send to that user. Any ideas? Thanks.

try setting up another user on that domain and see if it gets through? Can you confirm that you do see log entries from the site to the test accounts you set up? –  drone.ah Feb 15 '13 at 19:18
Did that. It gets through fine. There are logs for the new user but nothing for the old user. It's like they don't even want to try to send the emails to the old user any more. –  Ponny Feb 17 '13 at 9:26
In an attempt to try to fix this, I've made all of the images in the emails automatically download - hoping that it would trigger some kind of 'this image has been viewed, please send more'. Unfortunately, the problem still exists. –  Ponny Feb 17 '13 at 9:28
unsubscribe and re-subscribe? –  drone.ah Feb 17 '13 at 10:10
I have logged in to some of the 'manage settings' pages and I'm still subscribed. –  Ponny Feb 18 '13 at 1:42
