Server Fault is a question and answer site for system and network administrators. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I have a new server, when I use "top" to see busy processes I usually see

either at the top or close to the top

What is this process doing? How can I easily verify that the raid is working properly?

The overall server load is fine (0.08) - so it's not an urgent problem, but I need some information about md127_raid1 to avoid problems in the future

Thank you

What does cat /proc/mdstat show? –  gparent Feb 15 '13 at 16:16
Also try sudo mdadm --detail /dev/md127 –  mako_reactor Feb 15 '13 at 16:18
Can you get the pid of the process and attach a strace. strace -ffttTo /tmp/strace.out -p <pid> Let it run until it goes to the peak of top and then ctrl-c Pastebin the strace output. If it produces lots of files, then first one. –  Soham Chakraborty Feb 15 '13 at 16:50
