This question already has an answer here:
I'm looking to move a static non-profit website to Wordpress, but am having trouble getting a clear idea of what kind of VPS specs I'm going to require. I've been in contact with the support teams of many hosting providers and they seem to give me different answers. Further, while some companies put bandwidth at a premium, others put ram/processors at a premium.
So, is there a general rule of thumb or equation that can indicate what server specs are required based on traffic?
For example, my static site received an average of 255000 pageviews a month in 2012 - according to Google Analytics. Weekly it would peak at 12500 a day (Monday), and valley at 7200 (Saturday). Further, it would average 105Gb of bandwidth monthly.
I understand plugins would be a factor, but plan on using a minimal amount, mainly a backup plugin (Backup Buddy) and a cache plugin (WP Super Cache).
I am generally wondering how many cores I'd need, and what amount of RAM I'd require. Ideally though, some type of equation to determine this on my own would be infinitely more valuable.
Thanks for your time.
