What does \x16\x03\x01 mean?

It is an weird URI.

If you pay attention to the address bar, you will see the URL is:

https://gitorious.domain.com:81/login

It means that you're trying to talk HTTPS to a HTTP server. The fix is simply remove the port number from that URL (https://gitorious.domain.com/login).
