I am looking to upgrade my server that I am renting from my hosting provider to something faster.
What they are offering is an Intel RS2BL080 with up to 6 Intel 520 Series 240gb ssds
This is all they have, moving elsewhere is not an option. My choice is to stay with slow 7200rpm disks or use this option.
So I need to get about 1tb of storage, so I was considering RAID5 as the best compromise.
But now I have read that if the controller doesnt support TRIM then I may get degraded performance over time. I cant seem to find much info on using the RS2BL080 and if it supports TRIM commands from the OS or if it handles SSDs by itself without me having to worry ?
Can you guys give me some ideas on this if its doable, and if so what settings I may need to look at. If its going to be a problem with performance degrading over time, that would also be useful to know. Any thoughts on this setup ?
Also, I will be using Centos 6.3 x64 as the Operating System.
