We switched from a windows media server to a new streaming server running Linux & Icecast. During this process we switched the format to m3u for the playlist and the encoding is done via an inlet encoder. Formatting for the stream is encoded mp3 at 48 kbps & 4800 Hz. This is working on 90% of devices but we have sporadic complaints from various desktop users that included both Windows & Mac and also most browsers, firefox, chrome, IE.
The only two confirmed and reproducible versions of the problem exists on Safari on Windows.(such an edge case I don't worry about it.) The one that I do worry about happens on various andriod devices(most work fine) but one I know doesn't work is an ADR6350 running stock Andriod 2.3.4, HTC Sense 2.1. On this platform I've tried the Andriod Firefox app, and TuneIn Radio neither of which can open the stream.
What is the limiting factor I'm missing here? Other suggestions for formats of this web stream to make it more universally accessible? I'd really prefer not to bring back the windows streaming server as a fallback.
