Our domain suffix is 26 characters long and our server naming convention is for 8 character hostnames. This leads to a FQDN of 35 characters. When we install Oracle (v10 on RHEL5), emca barfs on the hostname. ATM I'm using the short name but that is causing other problems.
I've not been able to find any explicit references to the maximum size and as I don't have access to metalink nor even a support agreement with Oracle (the vendor of the product using Oracle RDBMS pays Oracle corp.) I'm at a loss.
Can anyone point me at a reference stating the max FQDN size? Is there a work around for this problem?
We have the option of Oracle 11, would that help?
