I haev written a simple webservice that uploads/downloads files and it works nicely. in production however i need it to be able to store the files on a NAS.
The techs gave me a username/password for the NAS but I am not sure on how to configure it for my virtual directory (note: server is on a domain, nas is NOT on a domain and uses a plain username/password to authenticate)
Google has led me to believe that i can just pop the username/password into the IIS metabase in the UNCUsername and UNCPassword properties. but how do i do this?
i have opened up the xml, and i think i found the line to edit but it wants the password to be encrypted. is there a tool or an iis screen i should be using?
<IIsWebVirtualDir Location ="/LM/W3SVC/1/ROOT/myweb" AccessFlags="AccessExecute | AccessRead | AccessWrite | AccessScript" AppFriendlyName="myweb" AppIsolated="2" AppRoot="/LM/W3SVC/1/Root/myweb" DirBrowseFlags="EnableDirBrowsing | DirBrowseShowDate | DirBrowseShowTime | DirBrowseShowSize | DirBrowseShowExtension | DirBrowseShowLongDate | EnableDefaultDoc" Path="C:\LSAsvr\server" >
i want to add these lines
but I am not sure how.
So my questions are
- how do i know what the password should be encrypted as?
- should i be using a tool to configure this?
- and i even on the right track here, should i be doing something completely different to get the filestore working?
OK I have solved questions 1&2. I used the IIS Metabase explorer, and I managed to set the values correctly. I am still hitting permission problems writing to the NAS. Any ideas?
