Server Fault is a question and answer site for professional system and network administrators. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I have a vm that I can access via vSphere Client and Remote Desktop (RDC). It is a Windows Server 2003 image. I am trying to export it locally via menu option OVF Template option. The option is unfortunately greyed out.

In what circumstances would this occur?

The server is powered down.

Can snapshots exist?

What version of VMware are you using? –  ewwhite Mar 25 '13 at 18:35

vSphere Client 5, vCenter Server 5 –  Sun W Kim Mar 25 '13 at 20:32

vSphere Client is a client component, vCenter Server is a management component. What hypervisor? Presumably vSphere, but what version? –  joeqwerty Mar 25 '13 at 20:44

I do not know. The reason I could not export is due to not having permissions (Power User not Administrator). –  Sun W Kim Mar 26 '13 at 22:31
