I'm having some issues with booting xen dom0.
Initially I started out with Ubuntu 12.04 LTS server and compiled and installed xen 4.2.1. Unfortunately, the machine wouldn't boot but would show a blinking cursor and be unresponsive.
I did a dist upgrade to Ubuntu 12.10 and tried again. It boots and works fine after much tinkering.
Now I am setting up another server and thought I'd start out fresh using Ubuntu 12.10 from scratch. Now I'm back to the same issue. When Xen Dom0 boots it shows a blinking cursor and is unresponsive.
I thought I'd add a whole bunch of debugging to the kernel command line. i.e.
rootwait ignore_loglevel debug debug_locks_verbose=1 sched_debug initcall_debug mminit_loglevel=4 udev.log_priority=8 loglevel=8 earlyprintk=vga,keep log_buf_len=10M print_fatal_signals=1 apm.debug=Y i8042.debug=Y drm.debug=1 scsi_logging_level=1 usbserial.debug=Y option.debug=Y pl2303.debug=Y firewire_ohci.debug=1 hid.debug=1 pci_hotplug.debug=Y pci_hotplug.debug_acpi=Y shpchp.shpchp_debug=Y apic=debug show_lapic=all hpet=verbose lmb=debug pause_on_oops=5 panic=10 sysrq_always_enabled
But all I get after the "Loading initial ramdisk..." is the screen goes blank and the shows a blinking cursor.
I've tried using SOL to get the debug output but I couldn't get that working at all. Nothing actually appears on the vga console so even if I could get the SOL working I doubt I'd see anything useful.
What could be causing the lockup? and why would my earlier attempts succeed? by the way, I repeated that earlier attempt (starting with 12.04 then doing dist upgrade) twice. But this time using a direct install it's a fail.
I've also tried upgrading the kernel to 3.8.6. It boots as a normal kernel but not with xen. Both the stock kernel and the debug kernel fail here.
