Server Fault is a question and answer site for professional system and network administrators. It's 100% free, no registration required.

Looking to simplify our logon process by adding a UPN suffix.

Currently we use the older standard, domain\username
Looking to move to initial.surname@company

Here is the issue:

We have two domains,
- domain.forestroot.local
- child.domain.forestroot.local

In both domain we have same named admin accounts used for managing the domains
- domain\initial.surname.admin
- domain2\initial.surname.admin

If I add the UPN suffix, and change these account, how will the server know which one is being authenticated?

Can choose not to change these accounts, or just stick with the older naming convention, but I'm still curious.

Thanks again
