I use the Charles HTTP Proxy to watch traffic from mobile apps on my computer. Some traffic does not appear at all in the proxy, though, and I don't know enough about networking to know why.

For instance, for one app, most traffic appears in Charles, but GETs to x.x.x.x do not. I can see them in Wireshark, but they simply don't appear in Charles.

Why does that traffic not show up? Should all traffic show up in a proxy?

Is the traffic that isn't tracking HTTPS, perchance? –  ceejayoz May 15 '13 at 19:41

Thanks for the response! I have confirmed through wireshark that it is not https; it's plaintext. In addition, Charles works very well with SSL and shows that traffic properly. –  user173930 May 15 '13 at 20:06

plaintext is not a rfc protocol ... –  cept0 May 15 '13 at 20:59
