I installed mysql 5.6 with
dpkg to play with it and since my
CREATE USER command kept disconnecting the
mysql daemon and could not find a reason on Google why it is doing it.
I wanted to switch back to the original
mysql-server pack from Ubuntu repositories. The problem is that now I cannot clean install
I removed and purged all
mysql installation (+ the 5.6 one) and when I do:
sudo apt-get install mysql-server mysql-client
at some point it throws an error:
start : Job failed to start invoke-rc.d : initscript mysql, action "start" failed dpkg : error processing mysql-server-5.5 (--configure) subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1 dpkg : dependency problems prevent configuration of mysql-server: mysql-server depends on mysql-server-5.5; however : Package mysql-server-5.5 is not configured yet. .. E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)
Then, when I type in
mysql at command prompt it says:
ERROR 2002 (HY000): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' (2)
I can only remove again what is been installed and try, also restart, but keeps blocking at the same stage.
