Server Fault is a question and answer site for professional system and network administrators. It's 100% free, no registration required.

On my CentOS 6 VPS I have installed Virtualmin, Git, Gitweb and Virtualmin Git module. On one of the virtual servers, I have enabled git repositories, created a repository, created a user for the virtual server and granted the user permission for the repository (in the Webmin/Virtualmin interface). DAV login is enabled.

I can clone the repository on the local computer with:

git clone http://user@domain.com/git/repo.git

After the password prompt I get a:

warning: You appear to have cloned an empty repository

Next I do this:

git add *
git commit -m "message"
git push http://user@domain.com/git/repo.git master

This is when I get the password prompt, I enter the password, then I get the password prompt again (no error issued), I enter the password again and nothing - it just remains frozen. No error, no message, no prompt.

With a CTRL-C it just returns to the prompt.

How can I get it to push?

This question came from our site for pro webmasters.

And, what is the question? Why it doesn't push or why it freezes? –  DKOATED May 24 '13 at 11:18
Both, actually. –  Marius Stuparu May 24 '13 at 12:45
Similar to serverfault.com/questions/256376/… but not quite a duplicate –  Stephen Ostermiller May 24 '13 at 15:07
have you tried git push -f ? –  Abhishek Anand Amralkar May 24 '13 at 15:14
