When I was the only developer in our company, using Git to deploy websites on our Plesk-based test-server was easy; I just did everything as root with a simple post-receive hook.
Now that we have multiple developers, we need a better solution. Gitolite seems ideal for the job of managing user access. What I want on the development server is to give each user his own repo and have a post-recieve hook checkout whatever branch was last pushed (and hopefully also use a push without changes to switch branches, though recent version of Git seem to recognize this and not execute the post-receive hook, leaving me with no option but to give all developers some level of SSH access). The problem I'm having is setting up the post-receive hook.
There are plenty of solutions online for normal servers, but Plesk seems to insist on specific users and groups for everything. Sadly, I cannot rid of Plesk so I'll have to work around it's issues.
I can get it all running by setting the access-mode of the web directory to 0777, but even if security weren't an issue, it would create an un-production-like environment.
Does anybody have any experience setting up Gitolite with website deployment on a Plesk server?
I'm using Plesk 11, Gitolite 3 and Git 1.7.1
