Server Fault is a question and answer site for professional system and network administrators. It's 100% free, no registration required.

My issue is a specific client connot connect to a NAS via FTP on or off the same network as the NAS. I don't have much experience troubleshooting FTP so I'm hoping someone here can help.

  • 1 FTP Capable NAS
  • 1 SonicWall
  • 1 Internal PC - WIN7 (IPC)
  • 1 Additional Internal PC for process of elimination - WIN7 (APC)
  • 1 External PC - WIN7 (EPC)

Methods for testing FTP

  • IE FTP
  • Windows Explorer
  • WinSCP

Troubleshooting steps

  • IPC cannot connect to NAS via FTP on same network using SonicWall public IP.
  • IPC cannot connect to NAS via FTP on different network using SonicWall public IP.
  • IPC can connect to other FTP servers.
  • IPC can ping SonicWall public IP.
  • APC can connect to NAS via FTP using same credentials and SonicWall public IP.
  • EPC can connect to NAS via FTP using same credentials and SonicWall public IP.
  • IPC and EPC telnet to SonicWall on port 21 receive different messages.
  • Restarted IPC, renewed IP, Flushed DNS but still no connectivity.

Was working previously, IPC User said he tried uninstalling something and that might have caused the error.
