Server Fault is a question and answer site for professional system and network administrators. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I am new for hosting. I have taken Amazon EC2 free tire for hosting and host a Rails website on an ec2 instance. I have taken a domain name for my site named http://jarsoftwares.com/ . I have configured the dns A Record which maps to my ec2 instance static IP. Now the problem is when I do http://www.jarsoftwares.com/ its not working. I don't get support from the company where register a domain because this is the issue of hosting as per their view. I don't know where do I need to change. I have configured Apache2 and passanger on ec2 instance. Following is the configuration of my apache.

<VirtualHost *:80>
ServerName jarsoftwares.com
ServerAlias www.jarsoftwares.com
DocumentRoot <path>
RailsEnv production
<Directory <path>>
    AllowOverride all
    Options -MultiViews

Can anybody please suggest what I need to do to make it working for www ?

Have you tried to create a CNAME record? –  jguntel Jul 25 '13 at 7:20
you server is online now..the config file seems ok to me..i think you might forget to restart the Apache at first. –  KuN Jul 25 '13 at 7:26
Your domain is fine. Both www.jarsoftwares.com and jarsoftwares.com point to the same address and I'm getting that result from multiple public DNS resolvers. I do get a page back from www.jarsoftwares.com when using curl from an EC2 box but not when trying from browsers in my home. I'm suspicious there is a DNS caching issue here that's causing different results for different people. When did you last change the www.jarsoftwares.com record? –  Ladadadada Jul 25 '13 at 7:27
;; ANSWER SECTION: www.jarsoftwares.com. 14342 IN CNAME jarsoftwares.com. jarsoftwares.com. 38342 IN A It's configured correctly. Maybe you had to wait for the DNS propagation or try to change temporarly your client computer nameserver to –  fsoppelsa Jul 25 '13 at 7:31
