Server Fault is a question and answer site for system and network administrators. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I'm trying to add a new role to the Server Manager in order to set up an VPN connection between two spots. When I go to "Action" -> "New Role",the following message occurred:

"A restart is pending for this server and no roles or features can be installed or removed until the server is restarted."

I'm guessing this is the Windows Update that is pending a reboot on the server, however there are a couple of people working on the server, so a restart is a no-go.

Does anyone know if there a quick way to bypass this issue?

Thanks in advance!

There isn't, advise whoever's working on it that it will be rebooted, then reboot –  Mathias R. Jessen Aug 29 '13 at 7:59
Seriously? For crying out loud. Why does this site attract questions like this? There's a pending reboot so schedule the reboot and get on with your life. If the reboot could be bypassed then it wouldn't be needed. –  joeqwerty Aug 29 '13 at 14:52

I think restart is the only way, there is no workaround about Pending restart on Windows Server.
